Syria Earthquake Emergency

Don't forget Syrian families

“Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said: “Do not turn away from a poor man, even if all you have is half a date. If you love the poor and bring them close to you, God will bring you near to him on the Day of Resurrection.” (Source - Al Tirmidhi, 1376)

Surviving families in northwest Syria displaced by the recent devastating 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude twin earthquakes are still at risk outside in the freezing cold and fearful they will be forgotten. We're on the ground right now working in some of the most hard-to-reach places providing emergency food, medical aid, warmth and shelter in their time of need. Help us reach more.

€60 Winter Earthquake Family Emergency Kit - Shield a Syrian family from their harshest winter yet with warm blankets, mattresses, and waterproof sheets to last throughout winter or 150kg of fuel to keep a family warm through winter.

€55 - Al Imaan Hospital Care: Provide three mothers and babies with life-saving medical care at our Al Imaan Hospital in northern Syria.

€100 - Emergency aid - help us to provide urgent food, water, and medical aid to earthquake survivors.

€3,750 or €312.50 per month - Build a Home in Syria: Provide one family (5 people) with a house built by Human Appeal. Each home has two bedrooms, a kitchen, a lavatory, and a foyer, built on a concrete foundation.

Orphan Sponsorship – Sponsor a child orphaned by the earthquake for just €45 per month.

On Monday 6th February, two huge 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes struck the regions of Southeast Turkey and Northwest Syria. The first earthquake hit in the early hours of the morning whilst many were asleep in their homes. Within 12 hours of the first earthquake and with rescue operations underway, a second large earthquake hit at a magnitude of 7.5.

The deadliest earthquakes in nearly a century

Many Syrian families have lost their shelters in the earthquakes and over 38,000 have taken refuge in government shelters, shopping malls, community centres and even in their cars. Communications are down, and health facilities are either damaged or under-resourced. The situation is unprecedented and continues to evolve as we race against time to save lives.

We must remember that families in the northwest of Syria have been battered and weakened by 12 years of brutal conflict. We must remember that 90 percent of the population relies on humanitarian aid for survival, and essentials like food, clean water, medicine, and fuel are simply unaffordable. We must not turn away while the most vulnerable families are at risk of freezing and starving to death.

Why give through Human Appeal

When you give through Human Appeal, your charity will reach earthquake survivors in northwest Syria. Due to our strong presence in the region, we’ve been on the ground since the conflict began over a decade ago, and we have been working and delivering vital aid since the first earthquake hit.

As organisations struggle to get aid due to blocked and inaccessible humanitarian corridors, we are providing hot meals, blankets, sleeping bags, warm clothing, water purification units, and hygiene and dignity kits along with temporary and long-term housing through our Homes for Syria programme.

We have just provided 1,000 Syrians with long-term new homes, freeing up emergency accommodation for newly displaced families, while our Al Imaan Hospital, the only hospital of its kind in Idlib, has continued providing lifesaving healthcare. Despite a brief closure following the first earthquake, Al Imaan has safely delivered babies and administered vital healthcare to children, women and the injured during their time of need.
