Human Appeal Ireland has two shipping containers with tonnes of winter-proof clothing in our depot in Dublin. These clothes are exactly what is needed to help the people of Northern Syria get through this winter.
Our staff in Northern Syria recently told us on our visit to the region that there is a pressing need and a huge demand for winter clothing. Temperatures are regularly below freezing. The majority of the population, many internally displaced by the war, are living in very poor quality housing or temporary shelters. They have been this way for as long as six years and their resources have effectively run out.
We have already enough winter clothing to help up to 10,000 people. We do not need any more. Instead we need to get it where it is needed. This is not a simple task.
We insist on the best logistical preparations and practices which will ensure that the aid is delivered efficiently to those most in need. This means, we have to pay for shipping to Turkey. Pay import duties and taxes. Pay for road transport to Northern Syria. Hire a suitable building as a distribution centre. Employ key leadership staff in Syria to organise the distribution (inform beneficiaries, gather information on needs) and to engage volunteers in Syria to help with the distribution.
The value of the clothing supplies in our warehouse is estimated at €250,000. So every €1 raised to pay for shipping will have a net value of over €10. This means the value of donations received will be increased more than ten times.Help Syrian Refugees in Lebanon
This call for action is URGENT. To get the supplies to Syria for this winter, it will have to be shipped within the next three weeks. We need to hit our target as soon as possible.Support Our Ireland to Syria Winter Warmth Campaign
