In our Women and children’s centre in Western Mosul, thousands of vulnerable children, many of them orphans, are able to use the Ideas Box to help them start their learning again: often using it to help them recover psychologically from the trauma of years of conflict.
Finding ways to increase access to quality education and enhance the protection and development of children and the youth is one of our global priorities, and the Ideas Box is helping to bring children who have lost everything the ability to dream again.
The Ideas box is a pop-up multimedia centre educational resource for communities surviving crisis and disadvantage. It can be ‘unpacked’ in 20 minutes, providing the community with access to:
- twenty tablets,
- fifty laptops, 1 server,
- a scanner,
- 250 books,
- fifty e-readers,
- thousands of e-books,
- a projector,
- hundreds of educational documentaries and films,
- Five handheld cameras,
- graphic design and video software,
- a built – in stage for theatrical productions
But it’s not just a collection of technologies: once critical needs arising from displacement are met (food, shelter and medical aid) there is a need to build resilience and empowerment in the community.
This is just one of the programmes building empowerment and equality of access to the world’s most needy. It is through these programs that damage can be healed and futures can be built.Support our Education Fund
