On the fateful night of Friday, September 8th, at 11:11 pm, Morocco was shaken to its core by a devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake. The world stands stunned as the death toll continues to rise, surpassing 2,000 lives lost, with hundreds more injured. Heartbreakingly, this tragic toll is anticipated to climb even higher.

As the tremors reverberated across the region, they struck with a force that spared no mercy. In the aftermath, the grim reality unfolds: over 10,000 individuals are missing, and more than 1,400 are grappling with serious injuries. The scale of this disaster is unimaginable, and its impact is far-reaching.
The powerful 6.8 magnitude quake struck Marrakesh and surrounding towns, leaving devastation in its wake. In remote mountain areas, entire villages have been levelled to the ground.
The epicenter of this catastrophic event was situated in the High Atlas Mountains, 71 kilometers (44 miles) southwest of Marrakesh, a city renowned for its world heritage status and a popular tourist destination.
The deadliest earthquake in over a century
Fearful of aftershocks, countless Moroccans have resorted to camping out for the night, enduring sleepless nights filled with anxiety. They are desperately short of food and water, their resources depleted.
The sheer scale of this disaster has created a dire humanitarian crisis. Access to remote areas, where entire communities are struggling to survive, has become an immense challenge. Mountain roads, once the lifelines of these regions, are now strewn with rocks and debris, rendering them impassable for emergency services.
