Iraq continues to suffer violence and suffering. The country has now endured more than 14 years of almost constant fighting. More than 3 million Iraqis have been forced from their homes and there are UN estimates that more than ten million are in need of emergency support. Half the displaced people of Iraq are children and so are very vulnerable.

The city of Mosul is now the site of intensive fighting and the population are again having to leave their homes and flee to relative safety. This means however between 500,000 and 1 million people have already, or are soon very likely to find themselves displaced.

Camps outside Mosul are reporting the daily arrival of hundreds of people.

These people will need access to shelter, clean water, food and medical care. At night the temperatures outside fall below zero and winter kits are essential.

Human Appeal has set up an emergency relief operation inside Mosul, delivering food, shelter and winter kits to thousands of people there.

Human Appeal Ireland has sent a team to Mosul in March and is making an urgent appeal to our donors to support the relief effort.

We will need your support to get this aid to those who need it most.

The Iraq Crisis in Numbers

2.9 million people are currently food insecure, forced to rely on severe and often irreversible coping strategies. Inter-agency and cluster assessments confirm that 10.3 million people require health care, 8.9 million protection support and 8.3 million water and sanitation. About 4.7 million people need shelter and household goods while 3.5 million children need education support. Social tensions are expected to impact at least 4.7 million people.
