Human Appeal to ship 40 tonnes of vital supplies to Damascus ahead of the harsh winter
On TUESDAY 27th OCTOBER 2015 multidenominational religious leaders from across the country will join Human Appeal Ireland to dispatch Europe’s largest direct aid convoy to refugees living in camps around the Syrian capital, Damascus.
There are currently 11.7 million people who have been displaced as refugees by the conflict in Syria. These people are in dire need of immediate assistance.
Representatives of the main faith groups in Ireland will roll up their shirtsleeves together to show how cross-community solidarity is turning good wishes into a life-saving action.
Up to 20,000 of innocent victims of the four-year Syrian conflict, will be warmer and safer this winter as a result.
Human Appeal Ireland has collected donations of €50,000 from the Irish people towards transport costs and up to 40 tonnes of supplies from a huge range of community organisations the length and breadth of the country.
The aid shipment includes warm winter clothing and blankets as well as much-needed medical equipment. Led by the Irish charity, dozens of schools, colleges, hospitals and sporting associations have all participated in this mass display of solidarity by the Irish people with Syrians.
There will be a large number of volunteers and community representatives to help with the dispatch from JFK industrial estate (Unit 3A, 24 JFK Road, Dublin 22) (Link to Map) on the day. While Human Appeal Ireland continues to help Syrian refugees in Ireland and throughout Europe, it is acutely aware of the 7 millions who are stranded homeless and in danger in Syria itself. This aid action will provide vital supports to these people who are too often forgotten by the outside world.
• HAII has already shipped 25 containers of Aid to Syria
• It will send a further 10 containers before December in this Ireland2Syria convoy
• This convoy will be the largest such shipment from any EU country to Syria this year
Human Appeal Ireland is a multi-denominational charity based in Dundrum, Dublin and operating projects in 25 countries worldwide. It has been working on the ground in Syria since the start of the conflict and supports three health clinics, two schools there and thousands of family shelters. With its partners, who include the World Food Programme, it has distributed 16,800 tonnes of flour, 105,000 food packs each pack containing a month’s food supply for a family of five, and has provided a range of other essential aid projects.
