Women's Marathon 2014

40,000 women convened on Merrion Street on the 2nd of June for the annual Flora women’s mini marathon, the biggest all women’s event of it’s kind in the world. By the time the sun started to set around 12 million euro had been raised for 7000 different charities, every step definitely made a difference.

The warm, breezy weather combined with the feeling of excitement and carnival atmosphere created the perfect environment for women taking part. Nerves were soon displaced by fervor and doubts with motivation.

Human appeal had over 25 ladies participating on their behalf, from teenagers to grandmothers all ready and raring to go, to walk or run in aid of the Syrian people.

Yasmeen Ghnewa, our star runner, managed to complete the marathon in just over an hour! Having asked her sponsors to vote on a costume to wear, the resounding response, much to her consternation, was “pink fairy princess”.

True to her word, she ran the entire 10k dressed from head to toe in pink, with matching wings, crown and wand to complete her outfit.

So far we have managed to collect approximately €3,000, with more still to come!

Thank you to all our participants, sponsors and donors, with your help and generosity we will be able to reach out to more of those who need our help inside Syria.
