€245,000 raised in a single event!
On Saturday the 2nd of November the long awaited ‘Sounds of Light Tour’ hit their 11th stop, right here in Dublin! The world renowned Maher Zain, nasheed artist Raef, Awakening Records talent contest winner Harris J, and the hilarious Omar Regan, all took to the stage to raise well needed funds for the Syrian people.
The doors of the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght, opened to eager and awaiting crowds at 4pm; who were hoping for a fun filled event which helped Syrians in need. They were not disappointed, as the artists lived up to their hype keeping the crowds entertained from beginning to end. This was then followed by a post event signing session for the extra enthusiastic members of the audience.
The generous and jovial crowd managed to raise a whopping €245,000 for Human Appeal Ireland.
The staff and volunteers who helped to put the event together also thoroughly enjoyed themselves saying that “team spirit was high” and that those who volunteered were eager to do so for future events. We spoke to one particular member of our staff, Derek, who was working at the Human Appeal stand selling merchandise (the finger laser lights being the most popular), he stated that “the evening itself was brilliant! Men, women and children enjoyed themselves. And when the lights went down inside the stadium, moments before the artists came on stage, the place suddenly lit up by the laser lights in the audience. Hopefully this time next year we will repeat the charity event and I will see you all there.”
Money from the charity buckets and the laser finger lights alone raised approximately €1,000!
Other Irish organisations also showed up to pledge their support including, Manasik Tours, Orient Travel, DLR Ethnic Minority Integration Forum, and FOSIS. Aisling O’Connell from Mansaik Tours and Orient Travel thanked Human appeal for “putting together a successful event, for a worthy cause.”
While the DLR members said “We had a great day at the Sounds of Light concert. We were honoured to be asked to partner with Human Appeal Ireland for the day to promote the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Ethnic Minority Integration Forum and get the word out to so many different nationalities and groups that we are here and looking for new members all the time to join us and help us to become a more active organisation in the communities we now live and share our lives. The diversity of people and the friendship and solidarity expressed by everyone was a joy. It was certainly a privilege to attend such a fantastic event. Thanks Human Appeal for a great day at the Basketball Arena.”
Overall the evening was a tremendous success; the crowds left the venue with smiles and later tweeted and facebooked their positive reactions to the concert. We at Human Appeal Ireland would like to say a huge thank you to all those involved in making this evening possible, from the artists to the volunteers, the staff and the audience.
Your generosity will surely be felt by the people of Syria!
